Mark Hardy is executive director of the North Dakota Board of Pharmacy, responsible for overseeing and enforcing all matters regulating the practice of pharmacy in the state.

Hardy, BS '05, pharmaceutical sciences, PharmD '07, pharmacy, ensures the public safety by supervising licensing of pharmacists, pharmacies, pharmacy technicians, prescription drug wholesalers and manufacturers; establishing policies and regulations for the practice of pharmacy and works with the seven-member Board of Pharmacy appointed by the governor.

He also is responsible for the operation of the state of North Dakota’s Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, which facilitates controlled substance information to help identify and inhibit diversion in an efficient and cost effective manner.

Hardy is the chair of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy Prescription Monitoring Program Interconnect committee, which facilitates interstate sharing of controlled substance information. He has contributed his talents to many association task forces and committees.

After graduation, he was a pharmacy manager for Thrifty White, including stops at company stores in Cavalier, North Dakota, and Wadena, Minnesota. He joined the State Board of Pharmacy in 2011 as assistant executive director.

A strong supporter of the NDSU College of Health Professions, Hardy is a member of the Pharmacy National Advisory Board and the college's Academic Affairs and Accreditation Subcommittee. In addition, he participates in the program's annual fall White Coat Ceremony and the spring hooding ceremony.

"Dr. Hardy is an excellent role model for our young alumni regarding early career success and his passion and involvement with his alma mater," wrote nominator Charles D. Peterson, dean and professor in the College of Health Professions.

Mike Schwab, executive vice president of the North Dakota Pharmacists Association, wrote, "Dr. Hardy has distinguished himself as a leader in the profession of pharmacy and exemplifies outstanding service to the community of Bismarck and the state of North Dakota."

Hardy, who grew up in Neche, North Dakota, is a past recipient 2007 Mylan Excellence in Pharmacy Award for his graduating class and the Pharmacist Mutual Insurance Distinguished Young Pharmacist for 2009.

He is a past member of the board of directors of the Arc of Bismarck and an active member of the Bismarck Rotary Club. He is a former member of the NDSU Blue Key Honor Society.

Hardy lives in Bismarck, North Dakota.
